Some Creatures Will Not Spawn
There has been an update to Dungeon Keeper 2 by the way of a patch, which is usually pre-installed in the game when you download and install it. The patch is very handy because it makes the game more even. However, it also results in some creatures not spawning during the later levels. For example, the Dark Angel and Black Knight will not spawn later in the game.
There are patches to solve this, but I cannot be sure if they are legitimately good or if they contain some sort of malware. You are able to fix the game without a patch by replacing a few of the map data files with the old map data files. Here is how you do it.
Search for your game files. I did it on my computer by running a search, finding the Dungeon Keeper 2 icon, and then opening the file in that location.
Double click to go into the file called “Data.”
Then, double click to go into a file called, “Editor.”
Then, double click to go into a file called, “Maps.”
These are the files you are interested in. You will need to find and replace some of these files with older ones.
The files you are going to need are listed further down the page. I have placed them online in different forms because I had trouble uncompressing them. You only need one set of files because they are all the same. I have placed them in an RAR file, for people that are able to open RAR files. I have placed them in a ZIP file for people that are able to uncompress zip files. If you do not have the technology or tools to uncompress files, then I have also listed them all one-by-one.
What you need to do is replace the old files with the new files. You may look through them all and manually replace them, or you may use your search bar. I will show you how I did it here.
For example, I started with the file called, “level5Variables.kld” I clicked on the file and copied the name, which is “level5Variables” I then went back to the Dungeon Keeper game files and searched for it.
I then copied the old file from the patch folder. All files in the patch folder are listed further down the page, where you may download them.
I copied the file from the patch folder and went back over to the Dungeon Keeper 2 game files. I then replaced the Dungeon Keeper 2 file with the downloaded file.
That was an example showing how you find and replace one of the newer files with the older files. The older files are listed below, and replacing them will solve your spawning problems.
Once you have swapped the files, you will not lose your place on your campaign, but it will not work if you try to re-load an old save game. Your progression on the campaign map will still exist, but you will have to restart the level you are on. I am not sure what happens if you try to reload after swapping the files.
Here Are The Files You Will Need To Use
The files hereare the required files that I have pulled from the ZIP and RAR files. You may download them if you cannot open the compressed files.
Size : 3.836 Kb
Type : kld
Size : 0.836 Kb
Type : kld
Size : 1.695 Kb
Type : kld
Size : 4.414 Kb
Type : kld
Size : 4.398 Kb
Type : kld
It is not as difficult as I have made it seem. Basically, there is a folder called “Maps.” In the folder are a bunch of defective files. Replace the defective ones with the working files listed above. The files above are nothing fancy, they are just the spawning files from the old DVD version of the game.
How To Get Elite Creatures
So far as I am aware, you are unable to get the elite creatures on the campaign games. I am sure you may get them on “My Pet Dungeon,” and you are probably able to get them on skirmishes and multiplayer games.
To make them spawn, you have to set up rooms in a certain configuration. Below, you will see the configurations you need in order to spawn the creatures.
Gervaise Layout For Rogue
Alermeric Layout For Wizard
Bane Layout For Skeleton
Grubb Layout For The Goblin
Bzzt Layout For Firefly
Dominique Layout For Dark Mistress
Furnace Layout For Salamander
Zachariah Layout For Dark Angel
Bloz Layout For Bile Demon
Kaleb Layout For Dark Knight
Kessler Van Doom Layout For Vampire
Knud Layout For Troll
Zenobia Layout For Guard
Casual Tips For The Game
You can draw an enemy boss out by dropping your people in front of them, letting the boss run towards your creature, then picking up the creature and dropping it a few tiles away. Lead the boss to a stone bridge over lava. Delete the stone bridge surrounding the boss, leaving just the tile that the boss is stood on and the boss is then trapped.
If your creatures become unhappy because they are sharing lairs. For example, if you have converted a monk and he is unhappy sharing a lair with a vampire, then create single-square lairs so that no creature is sharing.
Build a massive army of skeletons by imprisoning your own creatures. Salamanders and rogues piss me off, so I leave them in the prison to starve and turn into skeletons. In addition, you can have as many skeletons as you like and it doesn’t count towards your portal limit. Slap your creatures so they only have two bars of life and it speeds up their conversion into skeletons.

I don't usually ask people to share my content explicitly, but do please share this content on social media because it is hard to find online. I had to search for a very long time to find a solution to this problem, so please help others out by sharing this post around for Dungeon Keeper 2 fans to find.
